or winter solstice/whatever exists in your character's world but do technicalities really matter I thought not
CATCH (because there has to be one): no Scrooges!! no matter how grumpy you might normally be at this (or any other) time of year, you suddenly find yourself in the Christmas spirit and partaking in Christmas things. That doesn't mean you're necessarily going to enjoy it, but you can't quite stop, either...

[How can she say no to that face? Spoilers she can't. Aqua smiles, nodding.]

Why not? I could definitely use the practice. It's been a while.

[She should probably deposit this pile of clothing somewhere though. Maybe by the door. You'll be soaked within half an hour and then it's christmas pudding patterns for you young man.]

Terra won't know what's going to hit him.

Ven bolts for the door, all enthusiasm and energy as he ~~all but bounces in place and~~ waits for her.]

Okay! Let's go, Aqua!

[Ven you didn't even give her any time to move yet of course she's coming gosh

welp nope he's already out the door and bounding through the snow TRY TO KEEP UP MOM]

[Son, you're so excitable that it's catching because that smile is stuck on her face. It's nice to take it easy every once in a while.

Even though when she does make it outside she might be cheating by the fact she's walking on top of the snow and not sinking into it like gravity should be forcing her to do. Magic. Or it helps to be a master of ice spells, take your pick.

This does mean she catches up with him rather quickly, though, chuckling. You're getting snow everywhere.]

[yeah okay Legolas you do what you want but snow is meant to be thrown everywhere SO Ven just plows on ahead, scattering it all over the place (and mostly on himself) and finally finding a nice snowbank that comes up to his hips when he drops into it. Despite that his legs will be freezing in a matter of minutes, he starts making up some snowballs for their practice session and setting them aside.]

Hey! Maybe we can use some of those extra sweaters to make some snowmen, too!

[Well at least some of us won't have to change all their clothes later, just think of all that extra snow time you could get in.

Aqua sits a little distance away, still atop the snow like a pro, and begins making perfectly rounded snowballs, scraping away snow with her gloves. She's not actually using magic for that. Just a good eye.]

I don't know how Master Eraqus would feel about seeing his sweaters used for snowmen. But it might make him laugh if they were good enough.

Hmm... maybe just the scarves, then.

[They can hang them up to dry if they get wet!

Ven's snowballs aren't exactly artistic, but they'll get the job done once they're lobbed at somebody. As he works, he frowns thoughtfully and glances off in the distance.]

We definitely won't be swimming in the pond anytime soon, huh... You think it's frozen over? [and if so ARE YOU THINKING WHAT HE'S THINKING]

Unfortunately for those dreams, I don't think we have any skates.

[Don't get too ahead of yourself, son. On the other hand...]

... but I could always try using my ice magic to make some.

[hmm but some serious thinking now]

You sure can do a lot more stuff with your magic than we can, Aqua. Terra says you've got more of a-- [uhhh what was that word] --knack for it. And that he's always been kinda jealous.

[VEN NO that last part was just between guys you weren't supposed to say that]

I've never done it before, but it can't hurt to try. In all the worlds out there, someone likely already beat me to it.

[Shrugging. Not all of us are competitive (cough Terra) and actually, it's more of a positive thought if she's not the first to try it.

Either way, she starts to walk the remaining distance - slow enough for Ven to keep up and speak to her.] He does? [She half smiles, because that was clearly a don't tell her sentiment, and also because he shouldn't be thinking about that.] It's just practice. If you're not the strongest in a fight... magic can make it seem like you are. [It's not just for show! It actually really does bridge that gap. Don't tell anyone, son, this is useful info you can use are you are still small, don't forget.] But... it's not a contest, Ven. We're all good at different things. If it's just combat based on pure strength? Terra has me bested every time. It doesn't matter. If it's the three of us together? I'm pretty sure we can take on anything.

[She winks, and stops walking to settle herself atop the snow adjacent to the newly dubbed ice rink, as she inspects her shoes.

It takes a couple of attempts to get it to stick to the underside, but the ice begins to form into a familiar shape...]

[Ven digs himself up out of his snowpile and quickly falls into step beside her, his cheeks already flushed from the cold. His expression is almost comically serious as he thinks that over. So if Aqua's really good at magic, he thinks, and Terra's the strongest... where does that leave him? Should he pick one to be better at, too? But how would he choose? Maybe... maybe he can be the one who's equally good at both... He might not ever catch up to his two friends in terms of specific skills, but wouldn't having both in a fight be better than having a specific weakness?

And then her last sentiment earns an enthusiastic smile, breaking him from his thoughts.]

Yeah! There wouldn't be any stopping us if we worked together!

[but now ice skates yes good. Ven crouches down beside her to watch, giving her enough space not to be all up in her business -- and when it starts to work, he breaks into an impressed grin.]

Wow! You really did it!

[Oh sweet, innocent Ven. Stay sweet and innocent forever, son. Don't be effected by that chronic condition known as becoming a protagonist.

Aqua finishes up with one shoe, shaking her head to rid it of the icicles that had decided to build up on her palm instead whilst wincing. That was actually rather cold.]

It seems I did. We'll have to see above the other foot, though... and then give the ice a try.

[Without magical assistance.

Except if she falls over. That's fair game. Still, she gets to work on the other foot, the process simpler now that she's already done it once, but the ice still has a fondness for her hand.]

And then yours, Ven, if they're working alright.

[She smiles. Skates complete, she moves to stand - that takes a few seconds longer than she would have liked, and it's rather ungraceful, she's gotta say - and trudges forward through the last of the snow to balance precariously on the sheet of frozen water as she slides away across it, against her will.

Wobble.]

[Soon, unfortunately. Soon.

Hurrying to the very edge of the pond, Ven holds his arms out after her, as far as he can reach, in case she needs help or suddenly falls backwards (although if it's the latter he'll most likely go down with her).]

Ah, careful! You've got it!
