No, you don't need to-

[But no, he's too late, she's already on her feet, and then she's wincing in pain and he's taking another step forward, his expression concerned. It was just a needle-prick, so it can't be anything too serious, Flynn knows that. Still, he can't help feeling somewhat responsible for it, since his clearly unexpected presence had caused it to happen.

So in an instant, he's got his pocket-handkerchief out (of course he'd be the type to carry one), and has lightly caught her wrist with his other hand, and is wrapping the clean white fabric around her finger.]

Here. It wouldn't do to get blood on that dress.

[Hers or the doll's, really. That settled, he turns his attention to the little dress still clutched in the Chloe's other hand. With his usual amiable smile, Flynn gestures to it, holding out a hand as if...to take it?]

May I see it?

[nooo, she's okay, really...!

But she doesn't object when he takes her hand, even if the color in her face gives away the shame at looking like a clumsy fool. Even so, her voice is clear and nothing like a mumble despite her embarrassment.]

I -- thank you, sir.

[She looks up at the request, curious, but of course nods once and offers it to him, carefully adjusting the needle with the same hand so that it's between two of her fingers and facing away from him.]

Of course. It's only a tear, nothing that can't be fixed. [She's halfway done with it already, her stitches even and tight and concealing the first half of the tear well.]

[Flynn gives her an apologetic smile as he takes the dress from her, being equally careful with the needle as he does so.]

It wouldn't have happened at all if I hadn't startled you, so there's really no reason to thank me.

[He turns his attention to the doll's clothes, looking at it with a critical eye.]

You're right, it's not too bad.

Flynn

takes up that needle and starts sewing, matching his stitches to hers.]

[Chloe could argue that no, it's most certainly her fault for not being attentive, and then being so clumsy and thoughtless besides, but there's a fine line between humble and pushy and she doesn't want to sound aggressive in any way and besides Flynn's already moved on and started sewing up that dr--

He's.

Sewing.

The dress...?

Chloe makes a brief, surprised sound before she can stop it -- because not only is it surprising to find a man with that skill, but a Knight, and not just a Knight, but the Commandant, and not only does he have that skill in the first place but he's willingly showing it and he's good at it--

Stunned, Chloe only watches his handiwork without comment.]

[His stitches are quick and neat, and the tear really isn't too bad or too big, so before long, he's finished making the necessary repairs. He ties the thread off with equal deftness, cuts the needle free with a small pocket-knife, then turns the dress back right-side-out, examining the patch job before handing the little garment back to Chloe.]

There! I believe that should do it, though you might want to look for yourself just to be certain...

[It's only then that he catches sight of her disbelieving expression, and smiles at her (a little impishly, to be honest).]

...Ah, if you're wondering why a Knight knows how to sew...well, I wasn't always a Knight, you know.

[Chloe's still staring, and it takes her a heartbeat or two to react and take the dress back -- without checking his work, because all respect aside, she doubts there's anything to criticize after watching him work so naturally.]

N-No, I'm certain it's -- fine. [wait no that sounds bad] Perfect, I mean! [NO no that sounds... ah... she colors slightly, eyes falling.] That is -- thank you, sir.

[Leeeeet's focus on the other part ok]

Well -- yes, of course, but... I'm only surprised that... you would have taken it upon yourself to learn that kind of skill regardless.

[Mainly because. The gender thing. Coming from a society as sexist as her kingdom was (and still is, in many regards) tends to skew views both ways, even if her time with Senel and the others -- and, most recently, Flynn and his Knights -- managed to undo a lot of that.]

[He doesn't comment about her compliment--partly because he's used to people saying things like that, but also because she sounds flustered (though...he's not certain as to why, really), and he'd rather not press the issue if it's something that makes her uncomfortable.]

Yuri and I got into a good bit of trouble when we were kids. We could be pretty rough on our clothes, and we were mostly on our own, so there wasn't really much choice in the matter.

[Flynn smiles as he says that, because he's not playing any sort of pity card here. Because even though their lives hadn't been easy back then, even though they'd been outright hard at times, those years were still full of happy memories. He really and truly treasures his past, that much is obvious.]
